Over the course of 25 years, Joe F. Flores has dedicated himself to assessing K-12 students and helping them in their educational journeys as a behavior consultant since 1999. An expert in the areas of special education, behavior management and modification, and working with children, he excelled as a special education teacher at Luther Burbank High School within the San Antonio Independent School District from 1999 until he retired from the post in 2015.
While currently in semi-retirement, he remains active as a consultant, traveling to schools when needed and providing astute observation and impactful intervention; beginning his process with assessing students, he advised, helps to build a plan for them and develop alternate tools that would be more beneficial for them.
Mr. Flores attributes much of his success in his field to genuine compassion for those he’s helping and the ability to build trust within them. From the beginning of his career, he knew that children, even troubled ones, can immediately detect phoniness and whether or not a teacher, or authoritative figure, cares. While he hasn’t had a secret formula for successfully strengthening the behaviors, emotions, and confidence in numerous students over the years, he encourages other educators to be authentic and caring toward them. As a testament to his achievements as an educator, he was honored with a Plaque of Appreciation in 2015.
Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Flores knew he wanted to be a teacher by the time he was in fourth grade. He often tried to help his friends and others struggling in the classroom. Much of this natural instinct came from his grandmother, who helped raised him and was always passionate about helping people. He prepared for his professional path by earning a Bachelor of Arts in education from the University of Texas in 1990.
Looking ahead, Mr. Flores plans to continue consulting for as long as he is needed.
